I have a sheet feed Visioneer PaperPort Vx scanner. The software I have is version 3.5.2 according to the help window. I have a license number for it.

I use the program with MS Windows 95 and MS Word 97. The scanner is handy and quick to use with a great OCR.

However the software appears originally to have been designed for DOS or else for an early version of Windows.

When I scan documents using the Visioneer, it runs the software automatically and brings the software on to the page. I then have to drag the document to 'WordPad' which appears at the bottom of the screen which converts it into a program which I then find that Word 97 can read and can convert into Word.

A year or so ago, I found that using the scanner caused my whole computer to freeze. Apart from moving the egg cup shape around on the screen, it will not recognise either keyboard commands or mouse commands. This was an intermittent problem up until a year or so ago and did not occur often enough to bother me but now it happens all the time. I am unable to use the scanner at all.

Can you tell me what may be causing this?

Alternatively, do you happen to know who presently provides the software for the Visioneer PaperPort Vx? It is a great little scanner and I seem also to remember that your magazine reviewed it 4 or 5 or 6 years ago, also saying that it was one of the best in the review which was carried out.

I faxed Visioneer Technical Support in August 2000 asking them about an upgrade and I did not receive a reply.

Can anybody help?

Does the motor sound the same as it used to? Is the lamp as bright as it used to be? They could be getting a bit tired.
