| 37158 | 2002-02-26 07:27:00 | Tomshardware has posted a write-up on the new OpenGL 2.0 detailing some of what we can expect from the new standard. Here's a snip from the article: In fact, the tables have turned. Less burdened by the OpenGL committee-based design approach, DirectX is providing a number of examples for what OpenGL might someday offer. The prime innovation is the promise of programmability included in an API, which, though quite a ways from being widely put to work by developers, is attractive to ISVs & IHVs alike. It means that graphics development can be taken as far as any creative developer wants to take it, & all the effects, looks & features will be accessible by mainstream hardware & software. It also offers that long-sought & oft-promised goal of 'off-loading the host CPU'. The members of the OpenGL ARB, for the most part, companies also developing products for DirectX , clearly recognize the desirability of furthering OpenGL - the ability to deliver their products across hardware platforms. www.tomshardware.com Creative has been doing some audio remixing and has released some new Deus Ex scores in AC3 (5.1 multichannel surround) sound format. Here's a bit of preview: Every new version of Photoshop has delivered significant, noteworthy improvements. Witness: Photoshop 4.0 unveiled Layers and Actions; Photoshop 5.0 brought us the History Palette and Layer Styles; Photoshop 6.0 introduced Shapes. Hence, Photoshop 7.0's perfunctory, should-have-been-there-earlier enhancements, such as the new file browser, are a bit of a letdown. Based on our look at the beta, the final Photoshop 7.0 release won't be a must-have upgrade for all graphics professionals. But, as far as graphics apps go, Photoshop is still the best, most sophisticated image-editing software available. Photoshop 7 is due for releae towards the middle of the year and you can read the full review here.www.cnet.com For those who have Norton System works 2002 there are a few new updates available via the live update for Speedisk, SystemWorks and the Anti-Virus package.
