37021 2002-02-25 20:36:00 look around and pick up one 2nd hand from trademe.co.nz but make sure you can go pick it up and check it out. Or go to ascent.co.nz and get them to build you one customized to your specs if you want a warranty.
Either way do not go into a store and buy one off the shelf I personally reccomend a AMD Duron system for value or a thunderbird cpu if money isnt relevant stay away from any onboard sound or graphics they will slow down your system.
Also get paradise cable if you plan to download lots of the net or want a fast connection .
welcome to email me if you need any more advice tennisplayer43@hotmail.com if you are in WGTN may be able to show you what a PC can really do when properly set up.

37022 2002-02-25 23:47:00 Go to you local computer store (one that is truly local, ie not dick smith or loel leeming. Find a place full of geeks)

Walk into that store and say build me a system centered around an AMD CPU (they're cheaper and faster than Intel) and I have $2000 to spend.

A true geek will go through with you what you want vs what $2000 will get you.

You will be surprised how much you can get.

I used to work in one of those places, I was one of those geeks. :)
