37221 2002-02-26 12:24:00 Apart from Telecom/Xtra's Jetstart or stream, are there any other ISP that provides broadband internet connection via DSL modem??

And also, wat are the differences in the different brands of DSL modems?? I ve seen Asus, Nokia, Alcatel etc etc.... Do they really differ from each other in terms of performance and speed?? Or is it just some extra features that ppl probably won't use??

Can someone plz recommend a cheap DSL modem, around 180-230 price range??

Cheers

37222 2002-02-26 13:07:00 The Nokia 200 Internal dsl modem is about 270 off memory, nothing wrong with the nokia brand.

As for other isp's providing dsl, depends on where you of course but many of the bigger ones and even some of the smaller ones are into it now.
Paradise is 30a month for 10gb j/start, snap in chch is 35 for unlimited j/start, quicksilver have dsl, telstrastaurn have it in some area's, plus more than I have time or room to mention here.

Call or email the isp's that servive your area and enquire about services and costs.

Remember that for dsl you need to live within 5kms of a compatible exchange for best results.

Also remember that in addition to the cost you pay the isp, you pay telecom for the dsl installation at about 177 and depending on which city you live in, about another 30 a month on your phone bill for the '2nd line'

37223 2002-02-27 00:21:00 Note that all ISP's that have DSL services are re-selling telecoms jetstart/stream service, so your only real choice is telecom...

also, if you get jet-stream, you exceed your monthly download allocation after less than an hour of downloads in that month (if you don't believe this it is in February 2002 PCWORLD magazine!!)

37224 2002-02-27 09:57:00 ClearNet (www.clear.net.nz) offers their own ADSL service called 'Tempest'.

The best option is the 256K connection allowing unlimited downloads for $99/month.

Installation is $125 compared to Telecom's $178 and you must buy your own modem for the 256K plan.

This is a much better deal than anything Telecom has if you can afford it.
