37449 2002-02-28 11:28:00 Hi, I was just wondering what the command is to copy a dir from one drive to another, i'm trying to copy the win95 dir from E: to C: and nothing seems to be working. I have tried xcopy and does not seem to work. Help would be great. Thanks

37450 2002-02-28 11:40:00 To copy all files and folders including hidden it's

xcopy /s e:\directoryname c:\directoryname

run xcopy /? for more information on xcopy and run copy /? for information on copy. I think this works but haven't tried it. The /s is subfolders as well.

I don't think Xcopy copies long filenames and Win 95 uses some and may be configured to look for them in the long filename register. XXcopy may be better. Go to pcguide.com and search for an article about the flaws in Xcopy - I can't remember the exact title. If the search engine isn't working (it hasn't been recently) you'll have to trawl through the site to find the article but I think you'll find it worth it. Guest (0)
37452 2002-03-01 06:38:00 I have done this once before but will get hassled for saying it,

at the C: prompt type
'md win95'
which will make directory under C:

then type
'copy D:*.* C:\win95\*.*'

obviously no quotes, it worked well enough to install from C: when I had CD ROM driver problems.
