AMD has started pimping their upcoming Hammer CPU running both 32 and 64-bit code. The CPU is built on a .13 micron core and will be the first CPU to have an integrated DDR memory controller. Here's some of the pimping stuff:
'Great architectures are built on strong foundations, and 'Hammer' is rock solid. Based on AMD's x86-64 technology, the 'Hammer' processor will be the industry's first and only 64-bit processor for x86 computing, and is designed to offer unparalleled performance on both 32-bit and 64-bit software,' said Ed Ellett, vice president of Marketing for AMD's Computation Products Group. 'Beyond performance, 'Hammer' will give users a smooth migration path to the 64-bit software of tomorrow, all the while preserving the billions of dollars of today's 32-bit software applications.'
'Hammer' processors are expected to be AMD's first x86 processors to have a fully integrated DDR memory controller and 'Hammer' processor-based solutions are expected to be the first to incorporate a full HyperTransport(tm) technology-based chipset. Both technology advancements help remove bottlenecks and speed the flow of information through the PC. The 'Hammer' processor family will also be extremely versatile, with processor versions planned to power systems from thin-and-light notebooks to 8-way enterprise servers.

3DXtreme has posted a review of the new Lite-On 40x12x48 CDRW drive. Lite-On is fast building a rep as a maker of high-quality CDRW, DVD and CD drives. Here's part of what the review says:
The fastest RW burner in the market today is designed and manufactured by Lite-On IT Corp. The drive (LITE- ON P/N: LTR-40125S) provides 40X maximum CD-R recording speed (Zone-CLV ); 12X maximum CD-RW recording speed (CLV); and an industry leading 48X CD-ROM reading speed. LTR-40125S is using Zone-CLV technology when recording CD-R media, which starts at 20X from the beginning.
LITE-ON has outdone itself by raising the bar on CD ReWritable technology. The 40x12x48x is the fastest drive on the market. I've burned about 20 cd's since receiving the LITE-ON 40x CD-RW yesterday and so far I haven't produced even a single coaster. The Smart Burn technology works flawlessly and the only downside is that 40x certified CD-R's aren't yet available. However as mentioned before high quality 24x certified CD-R's should do just fine for the time being. If you are in the market for a new CD-RW drive or looking for an upgrade to your slower CD-RW drive the LITE-ON 40x12x48x is the king of the hill. A quick check on pricewatch places this drive in your hands for a mere $117 *(as of 2/27/02). This is only the second review earning the 3dXtreme Editor's Choice Award and a perfect 10. This is no reason not to take a serious look at the LITE-ON 40x12x48x CD- ReWriteable drive.

37412 2002-02-28 09:58:00 Hi Tweak-meister

Thanks for the news bulletins - I always check them out when I drop in to the board.

I've discovered something interesting that may be of some use to you. When you bracket a URL in between greater-than and less-than symbols, it will ALWAYS be available as a hyperlink in 'View' mode, even if there is adjacent text.

So ... hoping to defy the law that says the product will always fail during the demo, I submit for your perusal:

URL between<www.pcworld.co.nz

Two URLs togther: <www.pcworld.co.nz

URL on a line by itself:

(Remember to use 'View' mode)

Cheers

John

37413 2002-02-28 11:20:00 Good idea, John... it works well.

Just to add though, Tweak'e, is there any chance you could put an extra space before your URLs? makes it easier for copying and pasting :)
