37615 2002-03-02 21:45:00 15 hours on and they still havent fixed ADSL.....anyone else not able to get on with xtra????

Thank god for ZFREE, at least I can still get on with that connection. For a few days anyway!!

So what was the story with PC World being down for so long???

I heard Xtra tried upgrading their software...and it crashed big time!!

In so many of our classes they drum it into us to always be able to roll back to the previous system in the event of a disaster when implementing a new system.

Can someone tell me, in the real world does this happen??? or is it just academic detachment from reality???

37616 2002-03-02 22:01:00 I moderate a website and it has been down a day. I don't know what to do.

I am also getting the shakes from withdrawal and the worry that people out there aren't getting help with their problems.

37618 2002-03-02 22:09:00 Yes Tazzie, it does happen in the real world! Despite all sorts of planning (timing, capacity, resources) not every upgrade or reorganisation will work. The most important timing is 'how long will it take to get the old system restored and running for Monday morning'. Work back from that and you have your deadline, at which you stop and call in the ops guys to start restoring backups... Guest (0)
37619 2002-03-02 22:26:00 Just had me curious thats all...they carry on with all this academic theory...but it makes me wonder how the reality works.

As for Xtra!!!! I think it is about time they were taken to task by the powers that be...has anyone else noticed that not long after they run a campaign to get people on to a service...they then change the terms of service!!

Jetstart....no connection fee,get everyone on it, and now they want to cap it!! all of their advertising promoted unlimited!!! They did the same with the value pack...thrashed the advertising..got everyone signed up and then upped the price on it. Not to mention when they went in partners with MSN and cut out everyones webspace in favour of MSN communities......

To me its the same as going and renting a 4 bedroom house and then the landlord complains that he isnt making enough money so wants to take away one room...they simply wouldnt get away with it!! So how does telecom do it!!!

Can any one spell MONOPOLY

Definitely think its time to look at another provider!!!

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same???

You have a point, but I think you need to consider the simple economics of a large company.

If they upset one customer and lose their business, so what? They just spend some money and attract another thousand. You are not an important number unless you are 100 customers.

That's why it took 20 minutes to find out how to complain about my jetstream service and two weeks later I have not had a satisfactory response beyond an automated email and a pseudo answer that they are looking into it.

It has failed twice since then.

There aren't any other choices for broadband service, not really. Not until someone gets wireless up to speed ot gets their fibre in the dirt.

37621 2002-03-03 02:26:00 I'm not sure if I'd class this site as a help or an addiction... it helps me when I come here, but when I can't I start shaking and sweating and halucinating... Guest (0)
