| 37719 | 2002-03-03 09:43:00 | Up until today my A drive has been working fine. Installed a disk and it was slow to load. Put it through scan disk and it came up with all sorts of errors, saying I should 'dump it'. Tried another disk and it said it wasn't even formatted. Tried both disks in laptop...they were both fine. Any ideas?? | Guest (0) | ||

I have seen machines removed from pffices where the flopy has never been used. The floppy drives have been *full* of dust. Not dusty, full of dust. It is worthwhile if you have a small screwdriver to remove the drive, and take its cover off. Use a vacuum cleaner, blow hard, and get rid of all the dust. Just be careful not to bump or hit the internals. Then use a drive cleaning kit (shop around -- I've seen these at $5 to $15). The wet ones are best. (A bottle of isopropyl alcohol and an absorbent disk). If that doesn't work, its probably cheaper to buy and install a new drive yourself than to pay someone $40 for opening the box. |
