37912 2002-03-04 20:24:00 I have downloaded a programme but am suspicious about the file type. It displays *******.ISO . However when I select the programmes properties I see that it is actually ******.ISO.EXE and is a ms dos application.

Is there any reason for me to be concerned about this file type? Can you explain what ISO is? Is it safe to run the file/programme?

Cheers

37913 2002-03-04 20:57:00 An ISO is basically an image of a CD...used most frequently in Warez circles.

I would be most tempted to delete whatever it is that you have there....

How large is the file?? An ISO is normally very large eg: up to 800meg

What did you use to download the program? If it was a file-sharing program like Morpheus, sometimes people add the .exe extension to files to get them to display under 'Software' rather than 'Other files'. If you rename the file and remove the .exe so it has just the .iso extension, it should be usable via your cd writer software or ISO file reader.

37915 2002-03-04 23:59:00 Virus check it before you do anything. I suspect that it is pirated software that someone has created a disk image of the original (*.ISO) and then compressed it to a self-extracting zip file.

Take care and keep it legal :-)
