our hp pav 6616 running windows 98SE has been playing up alot lately, we are frequently getting blue screens of doom (particually on shut down) and the other day when it started up it complained that regestry files were missing and rebuilt them. I have absolutely know idea what is going on (are we heading for a crash), I have virused scaned (although not with the latest dat files cause mcafee wont give me them anymore).
does anyone have any idea what could be going on?, would a defrag help?, Your thoughts please |

A scandisk, followed by a defrag never does any harm. |

Firstly get rid of McAfee and download the free anti virus program AVG from www.grisoft.com ..I was having heaps of problems with my computer jammimg all the time and I kept getting the BSOD...but went to the windows update page and updated all that I could..think it was Direct X and a couple of others...have only had 1 jam up in 3 days....touch wood that it lasts....lol..after all it may have just been coincidence...lol...but after dozens of jam ups a day ...life is great again... |
