| 38066 | 2002-03-06 02:31:00 | Query: I need a formula that will return the number of times a piece of text appears in a range of cells. In this case the text consists of two letter combinations like WO, MA and the text in any one cell can consist of a number of two letter combinations such as (WO,PI) or (YO, MA, RD). I tried the following as an example: =countif(a1:a10, search ('UD', '*')) The result returned 0 even though there were cells in the range that included the text string. I used '*' as a wildcard argument which I thought would stand for any text string. I consider myself a novice excel user, especially using functions. Any advice appreciated |
