| 38226 | 2002-03-07 10:15:00 | How do I format the HD. This question has come up so important to me now with a recent HD 'crash'of my PC. The PC brought up a black screen with some options to go in with some numbers. But whenever I tried them, the PC would make some kirr... kirrr noise from the HD area and will settle down with 'Now it is safe to shut down your PC' message. After taking the expert verdicrt of a serviceman I confirmed my fear that it was gone. But by luck, one of my friends came and took the PC away. He said later that he formatted the HD and erything was OK. And it is. But I would love to know that process. Mukesh |

Nearly all are able to be backed up in the programs by File>import/export. Then when your sure you don't need anything on the PC(or can't get to it anyway), start PC with floppy that you made. Start with CD ROM support then at the prompt: Type 'format c:' without qoutes. Then confirm. That's it. When finished, type e: to get to cd rom then insert OS(win98 etc.) disk; type setup at the e: prompt. FDISK is utility you use first if you want to create more(partitions) your Hard Drive. |
