| 38128 | 2002-03-06 09:04:00 | We recently operated Word 2000 via Office 2000 on Windows ME using a Gateway Computer with pentium 850mhz English NZ spell check and gramar check do not work. We have had to default to English UK. English Australia works but will not allow the addition of words to the dictionary. We have just upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition. The same probelme exists. Have tried reloading Office 2000 but English NZ dictionary still won't work. Any ideas? |

I set mine up to default to English Australia and haven't had any problems. Have you tried running the Microsoft Office Language Settings utility? It should be on your Start menu in Microsoft Office Tools. You should set it to English Australia (or English UK if that suits you better). Also have a look at your custom.dic setup in Word. Go to Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar, Dictionaries. Mine has a tick beside CUSTOM.DIC and language is set to (none). Hope this helps. Rod. |

They usually use, by Microsoft default, American spelling and grammar. If you are illiterate that is just fine, but I hate having my English butchered by the checker. You also need to check the E-mail language, for some reason Microsoft seems to default to Canadian French if you state you are in New Zealand. |

English Australia won't let me add to the dictionary. English UK works fine. I'll try your tips and respond if I get success. Kind regards Ian McL |
