38390 2002-03-09 04:25:00 I'm trying to write a page that will be set as a Home Page to run off the local disk offline. What I want are links that will launch programs such as Wordpad. I write
<a href='file:///C:/Program Files/Accessories/WORDPAD.EXE'>WORDPAD</a>
but when I click on the WORDPAD link it launches a blank page with an Image icon top left, with the link pointing to Wordpad in the address bar. When I click on 'Go', Wordpad launches Ok. Can anyone help me with the code to launch directly from the link?
Thanks in anticipation

38391 2002-03-09 05:30:00 Because you're linking it to a page and not actually executing the program it won't work as intended. If it's going to work offline why not create shortcuts with them inside a folder.

Probably not the purpose right?

You can link the homepage to the folder and run the shortcuts in side of them.

38392 2002-03-09 07:59:00 Kame, you've given me something to work on.. What I'm after is a Local Homepage with icons, shorcuts, whatever in a tutoring environment, where clicking on a link would launch a program. I'll give your solution a run and let you know how it works out.

Thanks

38393 2002-03-09 23:14:00 John, you will never be able to launch a program with basic HTML, or else there will be far more problems with viruses and worms going about, as if someone far away can launch a program on your computer just by you accessing their website, what trouble that could bring!
