| 38328 | 2002-03-08 20:48:00 | I have Win98 version 1 (not the SE or second edition). Using the MS website I have updated everything. Now, is this equivalent to Win98SE and also the same as getting Service Pack 1? In other words, is there any advantage to getting Service Pack 1, or the second edition? Thanks! | Guest (0) | ||
| 38329 | 2002-03-08 21:07:00 | Steve, I've not actually heard of a Service Pack being released for Win98, only for NT, but I could be wrong. Doing full updates on Win98 won't upgrade it to 98SE - SE is like a whole new version of Windows. I don't see much of an advantage switching to SE, unless you are having lots of problems with 98. SE does address some bugs and oversights from the first edition, but all-in-all they both do practically the same thing. Mike. |

Long time since I had 98/98se but a part of se was many of the updates and bug patches that had been available for 98 and, a sort of patched? version of 98. On top of that was the additional add ons like IE5, improved support for this or that, etc. If you have all the avilable updates for 98 and it works well for you, then stay with it |
