38433 2002-03-09 10:32:00 Two days ago Internet Explorer v5.5 locked up while on line. Virus scan was done with all clear. However I have since had a number of lockups and computer will not shut down and I am sick of the scan disk utility poping up at every start. Upgraded to IE v6.
Have had no lock up but computer still wont shut down.
Defrag wont work either?

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
Peter.

38434 2002-03-09 11:17:00 It's possible that your computer started locking up after you installed some new software that was having issues with IE 5.5 and now that you have upgraded it's possible that that incompatability issue has been delt with.

Shutdown problems in Windows 98 are common, here is the address for an article in the Microsoft knowledge base with several things you can try to solve the problem.

Solutions for Windows 98 (Original): support.microsoft.com

Solutions for Windows 98 Second Edition: support.microsoft.com

38436 2002-03-10 04:34:00 Our computer won't shut down after recent upgrade of Outpost firewall.

Shutting down Outpost first does the trick.
