1291905 2012-07-31 11:44:00 Hi all

Have a laptop here which has these artefacts popping up on it. I have attached a picture to show what I mean (black squares down the right edge of the folder).

4044

I'm thinking it means the graphics might be shot on it (Radeon HD5650) for the following reasons;
- have checked both ram sticks, installed each separately and together and the problem persists no matter which configuration is installed
- have uninstalled the video drivers, reinstalled the latest, as well as a driver a couple of releases older as well as a driver from the beginning of the year and all have the same problem
- have factory reset the laptop and while the basic windows drivers are being used the screen is fine but reinstalling any of the Radeon drivers causes the problem to come back again

The laptop works fine but these little black squares are a bit annoying!

When you first power it up and it has the initial black screen before going to post there are horizontal lines flash up briefly.

Any other ideas out there for me to try?

Thanks.

not a good sign, whats in like when just sitting in bios setup for a while.
Does it get worse after its warmed up ??
try running a vid stress test, 3dmark etc on it

Try disabling graphics 'hardware acceleration' in Windows ,that helped my issues in XP. Not sure where this is in Vista/Win7
in XP its under display settings, advanced, troubleshoot

1291909 2012-08-02 09:36:00 Hi again

Tested it on an external screen?

Done that now - get the same issues with the external LCD.

I haven't tried the stress test yet but no amount of tweaking the settings makes any difference.

At this stage I'm going for a screwed video card being the culprit.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
