1268932 2012-04-08 22:10:00 Police are hoping for a zero road toll this Easter. Let's hope that it stays that way. Read here (www.stuff.co.nz).

By last night there had been no fatalities on the roads since the official holiday period began on Thursday afternoon. This follows on from last year's road toll of 284 – the lowest in decades and the first time it had been under 300 deaths since 1952.

Police said a man who died in hospital in Auckland following a crash in the East Auckland suburb of Glen Innes, on Saturday, had a medical condition and did not count towards the road toll.

1268933 2012-04-08 22:37:00 Bet office Plod will pat himself on the back and will say it was all down to the 4Kph enforcement but really after seeing on TV the other nite the lack of people going away (no one at work this year is going away,) because of the high cost of fuel and the perfect weather I don't think Plod will have much to do with it.. paulw (1826)
1268934 2012-04-08 22:43:00 Traveled on Friday and yesterday, Towing a caravan.

Then over to Palmy for a meal last night.

Traffic has been lighter then a usual weekend.

And then, as mentioned, fine clear weather giving perfect driving conditions.

The police had as much to do with the road toll as the invisible man that lives in the sky judging us.

1268937 2012-04-09 01:17:00 Like on tv all these lying clowns saying they weren't going on holiday because of the price of gas.
And the roads are like totally jammed.
The more jammed the roads the slower the speed, slower the speed the smaller the crash.
My hat goes out to the feld polizei for all their work in reducing the road toll.

1268939 2012-04-09 06:17:00 Don't know why they bother with holiday tolls...................like nothing happens when it's not a holiday weekend?

10 dead in 48 hours just before Easter....

Considering all the road police I did not see I don't think it has anything to do with policing. To Palmy on Sat and back today without seeing a one.
