1268065 2012-04-02 10:41:00 I need a root canal done but have heard from someone that they can be a contributing factor to cancer and other diseases

After a bit of googling I still can't figure out if it's just quackery or a genuine concern :confused:

I am naturally quite skeptical about claims like this but still like to remain open minded - any input would be appreciated :):)

1268066 2012-04-02 11:12:00 Spooky - I had a root canal and I also have cancer.

But what about a root canal would cause cancer? I don't see how that would work although I may yet be enlightened.

1268068 2012-04-02 20:12:00 Do not worry about it. If root canal surgery causes cancer there will be one hell of a lot more cases here including me. You are more likely to be killed on the road. You would even be more likely to win lotto than get cancer caused by dental work. CliveM (6007)
1268069 2012-04-02 20:30:00 Who told you that? Some newage health nutter?

I had 2 done about 24 years ago, no cancer.
I might get cancer - seeing as it's the second most common killer these days, but then you might as well say it causes heart attacks too, actually the sight of the bill probably does.

1268070 2012-04-02 20:33:00 Careful, breathing oxygen can also cause cancer. 100% of cancer sufferers have breathed oxygen at some stage in their life! inphinity (7274)
1268071 2012-04-02 21:02:00 The only thing to fear following a root canal is the bill.

Get it done and look after yourself.

1268072 2012-04-02 21:04:00 On the surface it is nonsense - you can make a link between anything and cancer if you want. When I got cancer the Oncologist said it likely had stuff all to do with environmental things - so never really gave it another thought. You'd be better focusing on good diet and things that help reduce chances of cancer. Twelvevolts (5457)
1268073 2012-04-02 21:07:00 I have had many done, the first between 35 & 40 years ago. As far as I know I do not have any cancer except skin cancer, and that caused by standing too close to the sun and having a fair celtic complexion. Brucem (8688)
