No apps are trying to use root permissions.
I used SuperOneClick, which said I had a successful root. I have also tried to overclock my phone. It let me, but I don't notice any difference in speed or operation. Does this mean I don't have a successful root?

1268748 2012-05-06 04:27:00 Pretty much. I'd just advise you try it again. It'll show in the superuser app if it is successfully rooted, and asking for root permissions.

It may be that you need an updated version of the superuser package for your phone. I know that when I upgraded to 4.0.4 on my Galaxy Nexus (A little different but the theory is there) that it required a newer update of the superuser package than was provided in the one-click root solution. So I grabbed a new version from the website, replaced the file in my "root your phone" app directory and then ran the process again. This time around it worked successfully :)

1268749 2012-05-06 09:33:00 Thanks Chill. Finally, on the fourth attempt after four reboots I got it to work. I now have a successful root on my phone! Nick G (16709)
1268750 2012-05-06 10:10:00 Does anyone know how to boot the vodafone 858 into recovery. Currently it's stuck in boot mode as I forgot to clear the cache before installing cynogen mod Nick G (16709)

1268752 2012-05-06 10:17:00 root was fine, just forgot to clear the cache, so now its stuck in a automatic boot cycle and I can't find how to put into recovery. Oops Nick G (16709)
1268753 2012-05-06 21:25:00 Usually its Home + Vol-Down + Power.

If that doesn't work try Home + Vol-Up + Power.

1268754 2012-05-06 21:45:00 By pressing power and volume down, i can get a stable hourglass but nothing more. I backed up my old ROM before trying to install the new one, is there a way i can boot back into my old ROM, or somehow clear the cache?. Nick G (16709)
1268755 2012-05-06 22:00:00 i managed to upgrade my brother LG p500h from v2.2.1 to v2.3.3 without any issue yesterday, through the official LG update tool GameJunkie (72)
1268756 2012-05-06 22:17:00 Did you flash ClockworkMod Recovery for it? The Vodafone 858 is actually a Huawei U8160, so if you're looking up information online, that'll help.

IIRC the hourglass is fastboot related, so you may be able to follow the instructions here:

I never did the 858, only the 845 which was very similar, and that was ~1yr ago now...
