38614 2002-03-10 21:38:00 Operating a 486DX50 with 20mb Ram (we were given it!!).

Haven't updated modem driver at all because when I go into hardware profiles all it says is 'standard modem'.

Is there any way that I can find out the modem type and update the driver?

Many thanks

38615 2002-03-11 00:45:00 If you open up the case and take a look on the modem at things that may give you some idea of what it is like the chipsets and the numbers on them, or markings written on the card itself as to say what it is or even the FCC number you could possibly track down the correct modem.

You just search for any of those things and if you found the FCC number just use the FCC database to find out what it is and who makes it.

I bet that it's not your modem which is the speed limiting factor on your computer. You've got a 25MHz memory bus, and a 50MHz processor. Formatting web pages will be the slow bit.
