39113 2002-03-14 06:28:00 How can someone post a problem here when:

- hard drive is dead?
- windows won't load?
- Explorer doesn't work?

It's like when you call you ISP with a problem because you can't connect and they suggest you check their web site for troubleshooting and FAQ.

So, fess up, how can you do it people? I am dying to know.

Inernet access alternatives
1. Internet Cafe
2. Public libary connection
3. Work connection
4. Friend's connection

Dead hard disk? Get a new one and restore it from your backup copies. Likewise Windows won't load. For Internet explorer - install Netscape, Mozilla or Opera.

39115 2002-03-14 06:49:00 Robo,
You almost make me feel guilty for having more than 1 PC (4 in total) from old 486 up to the latest. All networked of course and running thru to the NET via a common NOKIA router.
Propelor Head??? I don't think so but I'm always trying to learn.

Keep the faith
Cheers

39117 2002-03-14 08:22:00 WAP! Robo, you (or somebody who knows what he's doing) should set up a WAP version of this site, so that if someone's comptuer doesn't work well enough to get on the site, at least they can use a (more and more common) WAP phone to post the problem :)

or even a site that handles receiving SMS messages from people and displays them on the site.

UGH my head is about to explode.

39118 2002-03-14 08:29:00 You ought to know, Robo - haven't you done the same thing yourself: asked about a sickly PC at your residence? Or is having multiple PCs one of the perks of the job?

Actually, I often wondered about that question myself, until I twigged that everyone else except me had more than one PC online at home. I've got two machines, not networked, but only one has a modem :-(

39120 2002-03-14 09:00:00 Actually robo, I think the 'multiple PC' answer is a smokescreen.

The truth is that the people who write in with these nightmare scenarios are actually ... SECRET SHOPPERS!

That's right, they're paid agents, commissioned by your bosses to see how well you're handling your moderator's role.

They could be anyone, any time, day or night. And if you slip up once ...

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Relax and get some sleep.

39121 2002-03-14 09:09:00 Yes it's like the old 'Keyboard error, press F1 for help' problem.

Caught my teacher out today, he was talking about TCP/IP and the Internet. He was saying that with Windows 3.1 you needed to DOWNLOAD winsock before you could use the Internet. Umm, how was he supposed to do this with out the Internet.

39122 2002-03-14 15:50:00 Hi Robo
It is strange you should ask this question, Thursday lunch time I saw a advertisement in the local Courier from 'In House PC Repairman' now I am not sure what this joker does maybe he glues up your keyboard after one has given it a 'head butt' just after the 'blue screen of death'. I would of thought with all the Software, hardware problems, different operating system I would of thought of something a bit better 'repairman'. The point is does a repairman ask questions on 'F1' ? It a bit like getting your TV back and seeing '1 hour labour' and the TV gives the same fault that night, does this mean the repairman banged it with the back of a screw driver for a hour until the fault went away?
