39051 2002-03-14 00:58:00 Ladies and Gentleman. I am just looking to reformat my Hard Drive. I have backed all the information I want to keep onto another spare drive and now I am ready to completely wipe the original. So If anybody has any easy way/s to do a complete format on the primary drive please don't be shy.
Also this Drive has WinXP and as I know all the other Windows O/S they go out of their way to make things difficult.

Peace Dog

39052 2002-03-14 01:16:00 First you need to create a start up disk with CD ROM support but create in XP(control panel/add&remove/startup disk) and then add mscdex etc.

When your sure you don't need anything on the PC, start PC with floppy that you made inserted.
Start with CD ROM support then at the prompt:
Type 'format c:' without qoutes. Then confirm. That's it. When finished,
type e:(maybe f: or g: since you have another drive) to get to cd rom then insert OS(XP, win98 etc.) disk; type setup at the e: prompt.
EXTRA: FDISK is a utility you use first to make or change partitons.

39053 2002-03-14 02:52:00 Big Dog, if you are ready to format, just boot your computer with the Win XP CD in the CD drive, and start the Win XP setup once you've booted to the CD. When you install WinXP it asks if you want to format the Hard Drive first, and lets you select how to format, and in which file system, etc. No need to go the long way about it, Win XP install does it all for you. Just make sure you can boot from the CD (may have to enable it in the system bios). Guest (0)
