38954 2002-03-13 04:35:00 I have Windows 98 and have Norton Anti-virus 2001 installed, which automatically updates etc no worries. It has now disabled itself, and I can't enable it. I receive a message when I turn my computer on which says 'NAV Auto-Protect - Unable to initialize the virus scanning engine database files'. The System status tells me the system is enabled - I have checked all the settings and it is set to 'start auto-protect on start-up'. What can I do? I am reluctant to be online without my Anti-virus. P.S. I am a novice. Guest (0)
38955 2002-03-13 07:06:00 Have you 'restored' ur PC. This may have stuffed up your nortons. The best way to fix it is to goto their website and read their knowledge base 'kb'. You should find a prog in their called crawler or something like that. It will fix up the problem you are having. Guest (0)
38956 2002-03-13 10:09:00 Hi Elle,

I would suggest reinstalling NAV 2001 from the CD, then updating it using the LiveUpdate on the net. You may need to uninstall the existing installation first though. I went to the Symantec website just now to research the error message you gave but couldn't load the page it directed me to. Suggest you try www.symantec.com and type in the error message and maybe you can get to the page. It should have the exact answer to your problem.

Cheers,
Rod.
