| 38961 | 2002-03-13 04:06:00 | When I launch a spreadsheet from an Explorer window, Excel opens 3 or 4 other files (the number seems to be increasing)I have been working on recently, then the one I dbleclicked on. I am running Win2K and Office 2K. It feels virusy, but nothing shows up on Trend AV. Have I accidentally turned some 'feature' on? Thanks... |

Since some are 'harmless' (had one person make a macro open up 500 pages causing the computer to use up all it's memory and crash) it won't be seen as a virus. There's an option to tell you if pages contain macros. If the page you open says it contains macros and you didn't put them there then you can remove them by looking in the macros menu and deleting them. |

If you later open the .xlw it tries to open all the files that were open when it was saved. The other possibility is if you have saved your work books in the XLStart directory or have set up an 'Alternate Startup File Location' - look at Tools... Options... General... If this is set up then all files in the alternate directory will also be opened when Excel starts. jt |
