39078 2002-03-14 02:42:00 I'm building up an old computer for a friend to get on the net.(nothing else, no games, no word doc's, no sound, no videos,) just surfing and email.

Lovely piece of engineering--cough--cough(must be the same cold Erin's got).

Motherbd = Intel 82430VX (that's not the chipset)

Massive 520mb HDD, 40mb's of edo 60ns, S3 trio something about 2mb. Silly V34 internal modem 33.6 (which I ran on my computer for years at 56k, buggered if I can figure how I did it).

It was a P90 cpu,--- just fitted 166mmx, ---can't get it to recognize more than 133, ---followed jumper settings to a T. Even tried all possible combinations, still only 133 or less. Thats OK though, it won't overheat.

Configured cache to 256 onboard, and 256 on chip (thinking all mmx had 256 built in). First question, do they?

Because on the second bios bootup screen, it said no cache L2 or otherwise.

Went back, and changed to 256 onboard and none on chip, now comes up with 256 pipelined burst, and runs much better.

My problem is I have no manual, and after hrs of searching, can only find some pages with jumper settings (better than nothing). Does say can take up to pentium 200. Second question does anyone have said manual?

Apparently the name of this board is the same as a commonly used chipset, which doesn't help when searching.

Third question is there a way to tell how much cache the board has, without the manual?
(settings go up to 512k onbd)

Thanks KO

39079 2002-03-14 03:22:00 LOL no way this is the same Mother Board I clocked my P200MX on (which you'll find a few of us spoke about awhile back on the
'Uberclocking' topic).

I don't know too much about the board either as I was only testing a few CPU's on it for clocking. But I had the P200MMX running on jumper settings 1-2 & 3-6 to clock it to 240mhz. I also had an old 75mhz chip clocked at 100mhz on jumper settings 1-2 & 5-6. I think the maximum bus setting is 66mhz. When I first tried to clock the 200 above 240 I blew the chip (I ended up getting another 200 though ;)).

But you should be able to get the 133 to 166, have you tried crossing over the jumper settings? (like my 200 with it's 3-6 crossover)

As for the rest of the stuff I'm not too sure about with this board.

Best of luck though.

39080 2002-03-14 03:43:00 There's a programme called CACHECHK which you should be able to download from somewhere. Google it. Guest (0)
39081 2002-03-14 04:33:00 Thanks Daniel, I think my board is different, I don't have anything that resembles 3-6 crossover.

Graham, I'm going to give cachechk a go, thanks.

39082 2002-03-14 09:09:00 Here is Intels archive of older motherboards support.intel.com
and you can probably ID the board from the BIOS number http://www.wimsbios.com/ will be able to help here, and may even have all the details you need

39083 2002-03-14 18:44:00 Thanks Peter,

I'd already been to both of those sites. Even though the board carries the name Intel, Wims bios told me the board was made by a company called Fly Yes, but they seem to have done a flyer.

Never mind she's running good now, just waiting for the external modem I bought on TradeMe, with no power supply.

Acer FB M56esf, does anyone know how many volts it will need, and how many milliamps?
