39274 2002-03-15 04:01:00 Hi Folks,
I'm about to purchase an external USB cdr-w for my IBM P500 ThinkPad. I'd appreciate any advice, comments, or experience other users have had with these devices. What was good, what was bad, what cd writing software came with it and was it any good. Was the unit/interface simple and intuative to use. What problems if any were encountered etc etc. I'd like to avoid buying a lemon!! If it's of relevance my laptop has 192mb ram and is running Win XP.
Thanx for your help.

39275 2002-03-17 00:04:00 Hey.
I purchased a HP Cd-Writer 8200 series (USB External) and although i don't have WinXP i run it with WinMe, and it works great. I have had no problems at all with it, its that good i even loan it to friends so they can use it. There are some 'flaws' though with the Microsoft XP Cd-Burning software or something like that so be carefull. also the link below will take you to microsofts compatibility site (if you haven't been their yet) so have a look to see if you CD burner will work with XP:
