THANKS to all those who responded to my question about cheap CD's, posted a few days ago. Here is a summary: There was a strong consensus that cheap CD's are OK! Transonic from the Warehouse, also Melody and Dick Smith cheapies: all are fine. Apparently the branded CD's (e.g. Imation, Sony, Verbatim) are made by the same companies as the cheapies; however this is not substantiated and there is no proof of cheapies being equivalent to the expensive CDs. No one reported on research or technical testing of various CDs (such as by Consumers Institute). One person reported that the more expensive CDs gave errors whereas the cheapie Transonics were 100% OK. SPPED was an issue: some cheapies may only go up to 12x and new CD writers are now 24x; the new Transonics are actually 24x as marked on each CD but the boxes still say 12x (or 16x?).
MY OWN CONCLUSION: I will try Transonic, Melody and Dick Smith brands - find the best buy for a pack of 10 or 25+ and esure that they go to 24x speed. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR REPLIES. |
