39484 2002-03-17 03:22:00 Here's an odd one: I have a Gateway with a DVD-ROM drive and a CD-RW drive. Until recently they functioned fine but suddenly a problem has cropped up. More often than not the CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive wont work. The Adaptec DirectCD Wizard appears with red cross through it. The DVD drive seems to still have power to it because it will open and shut but the CD-RW is completely dead. Then, as suddenly and as mysteriously, after a number of reboots they both start working again. I have taken them out, switched power cables, etc but to no avail. Any suggestions? Guest (0)
39485 2002-03-17 10:09:00 Hi Henry,

It could be a hardware conflict/problem, but have you looked at the System Properties, Device Manager to see if there is any problem with the device drivers? Perhaps a driver has become corrupted recently. Reinstalling the drivers might cure the problem. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Rod.

39486 2002-03-20 19:44:00 check jumpper settings for both drive and make sure one is setup for sec. master disk and other one is setup for secondary slave disk. if they both is setup for auto define that can cause a hardware conflict. Guest (0)
