39481 2002-03-17 01:58:00 I have just installed XP Pro on my PC, done all the upgrades but find that the CD and CDR drives are slowing down at the Cd verification stage of any game I run. So most the games will not read the CD in time and not start the game, this applies to all but two games, Quake Arena and Grand Prix 3. All the microsoft games fail to run and most of the rest (though they all are recent versions and original disks). The cd drive will open programs and install ok and read media eventually! but the CDR won't work in XP (even though I installed the XP OS with it). It just sits there with the disk light on and the hard drive doing the same.
I have tried all the Microsoft downloads on their CD problem site but still to no avail, The drives have worked fine previously in ME.
I do not know if this has any sigificance but the hard drive defaulted to F when XP formated it.

My set up is Athlon XP 1900+
Gigabyte GA7VTXE+ board with 256 DDR ram, 40 gig Maxtor 7200 Hard drive, Creative 52X CD, HP CD writer 7200, NVidea
GeForce 3 TI 200 graphics card and Creative live sound card all with XP drivers.

If all fails I could partition the drive and add ME

Any help would be really appreciated.

Peter.
