| 39355 | 2002-03-16 02:56:00 | Hi, Still looking for a Guru on 'Word', as I have it, but know very little about it. The problem is as I posted before. When the Apostrophe key on the keyboard is pressed, instead of the Apostrophe appearing I get a blank space. This only happens in 'Word' and not in the e-mails. Have contacted Microsoft and they tell me that it has been changed and needs changing back to another format, but declined to tell me how!. Any help greatly appreciated. Ron.. Don t instead of Don't. |

I think you have your keyboard set up to be ?European? , which allows the apostrophe (and a few other keys) to be used for characters which need accent marks. Look for 'dead key' or 'diacretal' (the correct term) in Help. Try the Preferences or various other menu sections for the setting. Change it to US. |

| 39357 | 2002-03-16 08:50:00 | There was a similar post recently. Someone stated that if they pressed the ` key (up there next to the 1) nothing happened but the next letter had an accent over it (like in French). Ah thinks me, that's happening to me at work! Followed the instructions and found my keyboard was set to Portuguese! Try Start; Settings; Control Panel; Keyboard; Language. If you need to change it you need the Windows disk and a restart. |

The setup is US-English,the double click has no effect and can't find 'Deadkey' in the help file. To make matters worse there is no Language setting in the Keyboard setup. Makes one wonder what kind of programme they have installed in my new computer. The disk is labelled Microsoft Word 2002, am a bit scared of uninstalling as the experts installed it and I might make it worse. Thanks again for the help. Regards RON. |
