| 39349 | 2002-03-16 03:59:00 | Hi there, I am trying to get printed in A2 size a CAD drawing. The printer at the print shop will not print my drawing from a floppy disk properly. After speaking to their IT man he suggested downloading the drivers for their printer from the internet and then 'print to file' and store this on a floppy disk. They will then print out my drawing from this. I have downloaded the drivers ok, but I don't know how to install them on my computer. When I click on My Computer/Printers/Add Printer and then try clicking on 'Have Disk' I am asked to insert the disk but I don't have one. I thought of putting the drivers onto a floppy disk but they are too big for a disk. If I click on 'Don't Have Disk' then I am asked to insert Windows 98 SE disk but this disk does not have or recognises the drivers, so I am stuck! I would also like to know how I can 'Print to File' as this option does not appear anywhere. I am running Windows 98 SE. Thanks, Mervyn. |

Just direct windows to where you have downloaded the file to, eg. desktop, or my documents, or where ever it is. Usually there is a browse option, in that window, or a drop down bar, that you can select your HDD on. Just follow your nose, it can be done. As for printing to file, that will be an option in the printer properties, when you go to print the document. |

I need some way of adding the drivers without the Printer Wizard's help. Thanks, Mervyn. |

It is not restricted to Postscript printers (I can do it with my Epson which is not PS). But can anyone tell me how to print a printer-ready file from Windows? I know how to do it from DOS. Printer files can be quite handy - if you have, say, Publisher and wish to send a Publisher document to someone who does not have that prog, find out the recipient's printer, install it on your computer then select it and save your document as a printer file. The recipient can then simply print the file, in DOS at least and presumably in Windows. |

Then after it has looked in 'a' drive and can't find it, direct windows to where you have the drivers saved. If there isn't a 'have disk' option then continue with wizard telling it that you want to select your own printer, until you come to a 'have disk' button. What you are trying to get windows to do is look at the .inf file that will be in the driver you downloaded. Don't let windows try and detect your printer if you have another option. Remember have disk, have disk, have disk, is the way you want to go, even though you don't have it on a floppy, it doesn't matter. |
