| 39630 | 2002-03-18 09:13:00 | I,m wanting to know how to get rid of the bios password. It gives you an option to change the password but not get rid of it. Also i can't get the boot up password to work, it just boots normally, without any password prompt. I've got a imedia Packard Bell Computer. Thanks for any Help |

You should have the option of Supervisor password and user password. Supervisor is the more secure. If you activate this then the PC will prompt for a password at startup and will go no further unless one is entered (good for stopping flatemates). Though you certainly don't want to forget your password or you've just created yourself a $2000 paperweight. |

If you are getting that option, just hit carriage return in the empty box --- that should give it a null password. Howwver, there is a way to remove all passwords. It usually involves removing the battery, or shorting jumper pins. (These don't work with AXP power supplies if they are still plugged in!). The motherboard manual will tell you what to do. IBM and Compaq usually have labels inside the lid of the box which show this informatuion too. |
