39903 2002-03-20 12:36:00 I have a Acer Veriton 5100, Celeron 700, 20GB HDD, 128MB RAM running Win98 SE.

I am about to install the following:
CD-R/RW, TNT2 M64 AGP, Soundblaster 5.1SE and a extra 128 MB SDRAM, and I am considering reformating and partitioning my Disk to be
C: O/S = 8 GB
E(??): Multimedia = 12 GB

Is using the FDISK okay for this? ( sorry - cant afford to
buy Part.Magic after buying ALL those extras)
Are there any other freebies that do a better job?

Many thanks in advance
Des TK

p.s Any one know how to make a wrist grounding strap?

39904 2002-03-20 12:52:00 Providing you are ok about wiping your HDD clean and starting afresh Fdisk should be fine. Normally Partition Magic or similar is only required for problem situations or things like resizing or removing existing partitions which have data in them that you want to keep. Guest (0)
39905 2002-03-20 16:07:00 Hi,

Yeah, FDISK is fine

People mention alot about Partition Magic cause its good especailly for NTFS, Linux etc..partitons(where FDisk doesn't see) these drives and capable to shift data without formatting.

Meanwhile On the other hand I find that it does take slightly longer if your creating [an active partionn & formatting] compared to using FDISK. Only slightly.

Just remember to make sure you have an 'active partition' being c: At 8Gb and use the rest for 12GB for your Multimedia as being your 'extended partition'

or if your unfamiliar when using FDISK try the link below:

www3.sympatico.ca

you can create a fdisk.scr (script file) for quick method; provided you also know of the switches and know everything by heart.

You don't really need a static strap, just make sure before touching anything inside you touch the metal case to discharge your static build up (that's what I do anyway)
