39841 2002-03-20 04:57:00 The Audigy newsgroup is posting that another motherboard chipset has been seen to cause the infamous squeal of death. The newsgroup recommends the following fix until a bios fix is released:
Information received from ALi recommends that the AGP aperture size be set to 4MB on systems using the
MAGiK1 chipsets, if you are encountering system lockups that include a tone in the soundbuffer being retried constantly (looping, emitting a high pitched sound).
The particular motherboard tested was an Iwill KA 266 V1.3, using a M1647 Northbridge, however this information should be applicable to all systems using MAGiK 1 chip sets that may encounter this problem

Here's a case of the spoilt brat syndrome. ZDnet UK is reporting that Microsoft has forced Sony to be kicked out of CeBit because they were letting visitors play on their PS2 console system, when apparently there's a rule against that sort of thing. CeBit is supposed to be a demo trade show only and when Microsoft saw what Sony was doing, they went crying all the way to the organisers to demand that Sony be removed from the show (Oh boo hoo, just because they didn't get to let people play their Xbox). Here's the beef on the beef:
Microsoft complained to the show organizers, Hannover Messe AG, that Sony was breaching show rules by letting people play on Sony PlayStation 2 game consoles. Technically, this was right and the Messe was forced to act on the complaint.
Sony approached Microsoft to find a compromise and entered into protracted discussions with the Messe for a deal acceptable for all parties, but none could be found. On Sunday morning Sony started packing up its 27 PS2s. The show, in Hannover, Germany, officially finishes on Wednesday.
denied that the company had complained to the Messe. But the show organizers confirmed that Richard Roy, vice president, corporate strategy, had complained.
Sony has shown PlayStation consoles for the past three years without any problem, and the Messe said it would not have worried about the situation if no one had complained.<zdnet.com.com
