| 40314 | 2002-03-26 12:38:00 | This is a variant of a hoax alert that has been around now for several years I think. There is a steady stream of these hoaxes and they usually show a selection of the following characteristics - 1. Request urgent action, usually 'forward this to all your friends' (relatives don't matter, apparently). 2. LOTS OF CAPITALS AND MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!! 3. Claimed origination from MS, IBM, HP, Compaq etc (a recent one was 'from' CNN News). 4. 'Worse than Melissa', 'the most malicious ever' etc 5. 'Will destroy your HDD, computer or files'. 6. Poor English. If you get a suspect e-mail check it out at - symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html. This site has an up to date listing of known hoaxes (they are usually labelled by key words in their subject or text). |
