1293977 2012-08-11 00:04:00 I live in a remote area without cellphone (or landline) or wireless internet coverage. I do have internet via satellite that i connect to via the standard RJ45 LAN connection.

Most tablets do not have such a connection and I was wondering if the USB port can be used (RJ45 to USB) to connect to my satellite router?

Cheers

1293980 2012-08-11 01:38:00 You could get a wireless router to plug into the satellite modem. mikebartnz (21)
1293981 2012-08-11 01:45:00 It's unlikely that USB adapter would work with a tablet, it's meant for PCs and requires drivers.
As Mike mentioned the easiest way is to connect a wireless access point or router to your satellite modem and then use wifi on the tablet.

Something like;

1293983 2012-08-11 02:54:00 Yeah I'll second the "get a wifi router", coz you won't be able to easily attach that USB network card to your tablet without a fair bit of hacking AFAIK. On the other hand, a WiFi router is most probably going to be a case of "Plug the ethernet cable from your current modem in to the WAN port of the Asus that dugimodo recommended, and you're away laughing". 1293984 2012-08-11 02:58:00 What Chill said - it's technically possible to get that USB adaptor working on an Android tablet, but most of them don't ship with the drivers for such devices, and you'd need to do some fairly serious mucking around with the guts of the OS to get it working.

Just buy a WiFi router, it's the simplest solution (and also comes with the added benefit of not chaining you to the router with an ethernet cable).

Sorry about the usb-rj45 suggestion . . . . didnt realise you actually meant tablet when you said tablet . . . . I was more thinking of a mini laptops with no ethernet ports . Wifi Router would be the easiest solution here as others have suggested . . I must have been still sleeping when i replied the first time .
