2012-08-07 21:59:00 | I have a munted HP desktop where I am trying to do a complete system restore from a backup. It all goes well till it asks me to either log on as a local user or to log on as an Administrator. I believe I know what the logon details should be, but I get a popup saying - Your account has been disabled. See your administrator (thats me) Is there anything I can do to get the restore going without these logon details , or help in finding the missing logon details ?

2012-08-07 22:12:00 | Does it give you the option (when you turn it on)?? Like pressing F10 or something? If you want to restore it back to its original settings | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-08-07 22:29:00 | The sequence goes, click start click arrow next to lock button then click restart press F8 till computer reboots On advanced Boot Options menu, Hilight repair your computer/ enter Select your keyboard layout/next "system recovery options", To access recovery options, log on as a local user. To access the command prompt as well log on using an administrator account. But thats as far as I can go as after trying what I believe are the correct log on details, I am told to contact the administrator !

2012-08-07 23:34:00 | What kind of backup are you trying to restore? is it an original HP image or something you've created using windows backup or some other software? Also what OS are we talking about? If it's a windows 7 backup image you can go into backup from within windows to start the restore process, or create a bootable disk that you can do it from. You can also use the windows 7 disk to boot off and restore a backup but it's a little more difficult that way.

2012-08-08 02:27:00 | F8 wont restore it thats if you're having probs. Or if its not booting I managed to get over the password problem and I am now at the point where "windows Complete PC Restore is ready to restore your computer using the following backup". Location G:, date/time (of origional backup) 10/4/2011 Computer: Iainz Disks to restore: C:, D: But here is the crunch. "The windows recovery environment is loaded from a hard disk, but windows needs to format that disk to restore your computer". Reboot from a CD or DVD and try the restore again !!! My G drive is an external USB HDD and this is where my backup is. Other than this external USB HDD, I do not have a CD or DVD that I can use to reboot from. So any idea of where/ what I can do from this point. It looks like the origional backup should have been made to a CD/DVD but I am only guessing.
