| 1269519 | 2012-04-23 23:25:00 | The suicide rate is horrifying. As for speed I find it interesting that Germany have sections of the Autobahn where there is no speed limit but the road toll is less than the USA. I don't know how it compares with ours. Oversea roads construction/structure is much more superior than NZ. NZ government doesn't have enough funds to improve our roads. Overseas Autobahn and high speed motorways that connects major town and cities are multi 2 to 4 lanes going in one direction separate by a center barrier from on coming traffic, where as in NZ, the highway is separate by a 100mm magical white line from on coming traffic ... Hardly any fatal crash from motorways, always from highways... |

Most of the motorways I have been on here are also separated by a median barrier but often could do with another lane. As for the funds, with what they get in road taxes they should have plenty but it gets siphoned off to the consolidated fund. |

With regards to road tolls I personally hate the way they go one about the "easter weekend road tolls" and other weekends, and how great it is when there are none, and tragic when there are a few. What about all the other days and weeks in the year? |

| 1269523 | 2012-04-24 03:10:00 | They focus on what is traditionally a "high point" statistically, that's why. And again, road toll vs suicide rates, don't even get me started, the road toll is nothing compared to it. More ads like the John Kerwan depression ones need to be screened etc.... |

Build quality of our roads and the materials used for construction are far better in Europe and North America than on our islands in the middle of the ocean. All you see as a motorist is the top layer whats important is what is underneath as to how well a road is constructed and that cost money a lot more than what the 4 million vehicles on our roads contribute and from the 4 million people who pay taxes and the even fewer that pay rates. Find another 30 million people to live in NZ and you may get some better quality roading BUT the materials will still be the same to build with. |

We need a lot more of our 'bulletproof' top kiwi bloke types coming clean about their issues too. Mental illness is very common, and many of us can expect a brush with it in one form or another. The key to surviving it (with friendships, careers and lives intact) is firstly to be able to acknowledge the issues oneself may be suffering. The second challenge is to see a professional for help. The third challenge is to allow a troubled mind to place trust in other people for their care... side effects, mistrust, paranoia, delusions (all too often a troubled mind will only see justifications for reasons not to comply with meds and care). Kirwan is a hero for swallowing his pride and speaking out. Most kiwi males are too stinking proud to humble themselves as he has. They're also stinking stupid as well. We go around with an attitude of "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger". Problem is, that sort of BS also eventually kills us. |

It is just the advert bloody near makes me want to top myself. |
