1294033 2012-08-16 01:20:00 OK I got the nvidia driver installed & are currently online through the wireless.
All is happy so far.
Interesting, with the add-on graphics card there is a different start menue.
With the onboard graphics it was like win 98 but with the add-on it has changed to more like xp.

Probably different menus depending on if you have 3D acceleration or not.

1294035 2012-08-16 05:27:00 that would explain the differences between the menu presented by the uni computers as opposed to my laptop. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1294036 2012-08-19 01:31:00 Not sure if I have created the problem but if I minimise a window it dissapears.
I can't find where to maximise it again.
There is no icon in the taskbar.

1294037 2012-08-19 11:37:00 Does it show in the panel when it's not minimised?

If it never shows anywhere, you've probably deleted the widget that shows open window icons. Just go to the panel's properties and re-add it. On my Lubuntu it's called the 'Window List' for example.

1294038 2012-08-19 21:28:00 Alt + Tab or move your cursor to the top-left most corner of the screen.

Seemed weird as hell at first but to be honest I sit down at a Windows machine and find myself doing that now .... :p

1294039 2012-08-20 00:26:00 Thanks, done that.
Thought it was probably something I had done.

1294040 2012-08-20 06:42:00 I've tried linux mint 13 mate version running as a live usb. I liked it a lot. I tried the cinnamin version but ran into graphics problems. This is on a HP DV5 laptop AMD chip and ati graphics.
Thought i'd try Zorin as it has the windows 7 start menu style. Ran version 5.5 as dual boot with vista. Liked Zorin a lot so downloaded and tried the latest version zorin 6. I didn't like version 6 because i couldn't work out how to customise/install themes so went back to version 5.5 (I'm still a noob at using linux)
I Like this one so much that i removed vista and run Zorin 5.5 only now.
Check it out, you may like its layout too.
Cheers

1294041 2012-08-20 07:17:00 I find it amazing how many different versions are available. Driftwood (5551)
1294042 2012-08-20 08:32:00 Yes, we're spoiled for choice with the number of Linux distros to choose from ... a blessing and a curse really! :D

Have a look at this for example: Linux distro timeline (futurist.se)
