1269511 2012-04-23 08:46:00 the ONLY thing she did wrong was going past the 50km sign in masterton at 55 as she was slowing down.

pfft failed because of 55 after passing a 50

Thought I should share this too:

1-10km/h = 10 demerit points

I still think that is to soft when you think about it.

10 demerits and none for speed camera if you stupid enough to be stopped by a cop 10 times in 2 years your clearly not fit to fit to be breathing and probably wont because you would have made some other fatal mistake e.g. missed a corner and hit a powerpole/tree before then.

$300 worth of tickets for 10 speeding entry level fines a bargain!

Now if you use the UK system of 3-6 points for speeding and only gave 12 of them in 3 years! You might really start thinking about that sign you passed thats advised you to slow down. Incidentally employers in the UK are less likely to hire someone with 6 or more points on there licence (yes they can ask and check) and driving jobs you are simply an insurance risk to employers.

Even more ways to use your licence listed here

1269513 2012-04-23 10:10:00 I've been pinged for similar, on a stretch road that runs past the local school, it goes from 60 to 50 just before the school. Many people have been pinged doing between 51- 55 as they enter the 50 area. In fact NOW they have actually lowered the speed limit in the school area to 40. Bloody great bright sign, you cant miss it.

They need to lower the speed limit around all schools instead of having the bloody stupid no tolerance rules. Not having any tolerance effectively means they are lowering the speed limit by 10k/h (unless you know your speedo is accurate & you watch it closer than you watch the road) without signposting the reduced speed limit area.

A good example of why the driving licencing rules need to be tightened. That "Extra" 10 kph excuse fails when the majority of speedometers read higher than the actual speed and very few read lower. LIMIT is the LIMIT when are you going to realise that?

They already do.

1269516 2012-04-23 11:33:00 Yeah I was looking at that today. Some of them need to be more, some of them are a little silly, but it still comes back to the fact that in NZ we're trying to bring down speed and bring down the road toll, as well as drink-driving.

That said the suicide death toll in NZ per-year is much higher than the road-toll, but that's a matter for another day ;)

The suicide rate is horrifying.
As for speed I find it interesting that Germany have sections of the Autobahn where there is no speed limit but the road toll is less than the USA. I don't know how it compares with ours.

Yeah I had heard something similar actually, I should look in to it...
