1294023 2012-08-15 07:02:00 What sort of graphics card?

I'm thinking the same, video drivers maybe? That, or a memory issue perhaps?

Or a driver for some other device...

I've had Ubuntu crash due to WiFi card drivers before.

1294025 2012-08-15 07:47:00 Apparently AMD drivers can cause trouble for linux. That's about all I know, though they seem to work ok on my laptop. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1294026 2012-08-15 08:22:00 I think you guys are right on the money.
This system had 2 add-on cards.
GeForce 6200 & a wireless lan.
There was onboard VGA so I removed them both & installed Mint 13 Cinnamon.
Seemed to run ok like that so I'm thinking one of them was causing the problem.
Have tryed putting them both back in but it will lock up after a while.
Seems to be happy with one or the other but not both.

1294027 2012-08-15 11:02:00 Are you able to manually disable onboard VGA via BIOS and just run with the nvidia? Myth (110)
1294028 2012-08-15 11:09:00 I have looked but can't find any reference to vga in the bios.
It must be able to auto detect when you've added a card.

1294029 2012-08-15 19:35:00 Does it lock if you install Mint, and then add the cards.. or if you install Mint with the cards already in place? Myth (110)
1294030 2012-08-15 20:51:00 Ah, both.
Read post #24
I see there is a linux driver available on the nvidia site.
I'll give that a try later when I get some time.

IRQ sharing problem or something?

Have you tried different slots? Have you tried a BIOS update?

1294032 2012-08-16 01:03:00 OK I got the nvidia driver installed & are currently online through the wireless.
All is happy so far.
Interesting, with the add-on graphics card there is a different start menue.
With the onboard graphics it was like win 98 but with the add-on it has changed to more like xp.
