1293846 2012-08-10 05:21:00 I am running a windows 7 Ultimate OS and for some reason I am suddenly having problems following hyperlinks. Occasionally they work but normally they bring up the website header but does not load the page itself. Just sits there showing the busy icon. At first I thought it might be a slow connection but I can leave the window running for some time with no result. Almost as though it gets the site but can't resolve where to go within the site. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, John phatman (1352)
1293847 2012-08-10 05:27:00 Is this links in websites or emails? If websites what browser? gary67 (56)
1293848 2012-08-10 05:33:00 Seems to be in both. Tried following an email link today but got nowhere. Normal problem is following links from the likes of nzherald etc. Using internet explorer 9 phatman (1352)

What happens if you try using Google DNS, does that help? developers.google.com

1293850 2012-08-10 11:10:00 Hi there, sorry to take so long to reply. I had never heard of Google DNS and having read the warning on the site I would be worried about trying it. As you may have guessed I am somewhat of a novice. I am noticing that following your link was no problem. Is it possible that there is a problem with my connection to nzherald? phatman (1352)
1293851 2012-08-10 14:49:00 Nope, problem not with your connection to NZ Herald. Just give it a shot, see how you go :) Chilling_Silence (9)

Warning? It's no big deal.
Generally your settings are on auto - so it picks up whatever your ISP uses first.

All this does it make it use Googles instead. No change, no matter - set it back to defaults - auto.

1293853 2012-08-11 11:46:00 I followed your link to catb.org. Found a reference to someone having problems connecting to youtube, which is one of my main hassles. He found a problem with his "hosts file". I read that the the IP address should not have an asterisk in front of it. I have two localhosts showing, both preceded by an asterisk, see below. Is this right?

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
