40496 2002-03-26 03:45:00 hi, am currently trouble shooting a pc for a friend which is regulary freezes ( all user communication stops) around every 10 minutes for a period of 5-10 seconds and then resumes - in the same manner if the machine was low on memory and some background task kicks in at that momemt.
i have defraged the machine, closed all back ground tasks using 'enditall' including a virus scanner - but still the problem continues - any ideas?

the machine is a pentium 433, with a 4 gig drive - less than 1/4 full, with around 128 of ram and win 2000 installed. originally it had win 98 se installed and the problem didnt exist at that time...

cheers gat

40497 2002-03-26 11:21:00 Sometimes the 'Findfast' utility of MS Office causes this behaviour. It updates itself by periodically checking all the documents files on the hard drive. You should be able to find it on the control panel and if you open it you should see the drives that it's searching through. You can delete these to stop it doing these random searches. I hope it helps. Guest (0)
