40479 2002-03-26 02:00:00 Telling the difference between real junk mail and fake junk mail (stay with me on this) seems tricky to me.

I got an email the other day that was sent to robs at a while heap of domain names. Now, I know I didn't subscribe. The link to unsubscribe seemed to work very easily, but I used a domain name that didn't exist.

It accepted:
rob@buggeroffandleavemealone.com, so I tested some other email addresses. It also accepted 'leave me alone', as well as variations that were less polite (I was letting off steam, okay).

Has anyone got any tips on how to differentiate the real from those that are fishing?

The rest are all fishing, don't answer them.

There is big money in selling the names, of innocent people that unsubscribe.

The abuse sounds like fun though. How do you know they can't get your real email address from the abuse?

40481 2002-03-27 01:57:00 I usually sing up people who've pissed me off

I remember reading in the mag... Filter all mail to the trash and and ad exceptions for the mail that you want.

Fish through the trash and if you find something you want then add it to the exceptions list.

That is mean. I wonder if anyone has signed up their ISP to junk mail.
