40483 2002-03-26 02:59:00 Greetings - I'm looking for some decent free web site counters for a friend of mine who's building a web site. Any suggestions?

I've already trawled Google, which gave me a whole bunch of the things, but I'm wanting to get opinions on the best one to use.

Any help much appreciated.

40484 2002-03-26 04:12:00 Hi. The best will always be server side apps - get your friend to find out if his site host has pre-installed cgi's or has his/her own cgi-bin folder. If so, scripts for a counter can be found all over - mattsscriptarchive.com is a good place to start. Guest (0)
40485 2002-03-26 06:54:00 Sharkey,

I've used Sitemeter for a while now and seems to work quite well - doesn't have stupid pop-ups or anything come up, requires the counter to be shown on the page (unless you pay - then you can have an invisible counter), keeps good stats etc. and charts them for you (and I think will email stats to you occasionally, but I can't remember).

they've got a free meter (which is what I use) and I think several pay ones as well. check out the site here:
