40679 2002-03-27 11:23:00 I recently had a second Telsra/Clear phone line installed specifically for my internet connection. This inceased the connection speed but I can no longer send e mails with pictures imbeded or attached. I get an error message '...timed out waiting for a response from smtp server.' I am using Win XP/Outlook 2002. I don't have this problem using my old computer (Win98/Outlook 2000)on the same connection.
Is there a setting that can be changed.

Any ideas

40680 2002-03-27 21:53:00 Are your SMTP settings OK?

In Outlook Express 5 it is: Tools, Accounts, Mail, select the account, Properties, Servers, Outgoing Mail(SMTP).

Check this account is the same as on the other computer.

Note: My SMTP is smtp.ihug.co.nz. I once accidentally spelt smtp as stmp which fouled it up. Took a few minutes to spot.

40681 2002-03-27 23:06:00 SMTP settings are OK.

smtp.paradise.net.nz

Text only e mails send OK. Ones with images don't.

I frequently set up email on various computers, and for some reason I have to check myself very carefully for the same typo. I catch the error so often that now as I type the four letters I recite aloud, 'Simple Mail Transfer Protocol' as I type SMTP.

I always spell 'POP' correctly, though. :-)

40683 2002-03-28 12:22:00 A phone line seems something very unlikely to be the cause of this problem as it will work well for everything equally, without care of the content. Also the other machine works well.
The fact that text only messages work sugest that the smtp settings are OK too. Are the message images embeded into the message body or are they attachments?
What happens when you send a plain text message with attachment(s)?
I too am with pardise and the only time their smtp server ever gave me greif was when i tried to send messages using senders-name@a-domain-that-did-not-exsist.co.nz
As you can tell, without more information, i am only clutching at straws to guess what the cause of the problem might be.
