| 40628 | 2002-03-27 04:23:00 | If there are, say 100 browers accessing a webserver and they are all requesting a different page to be sent to them. How does the server know which page to sent to which browser. Simple or some reading to do ???. Cheers colin |

| 40629 | 2002-03-27 04:42:00 | Fairly simple. Each request looks roughly like: 'send the page '/whereit/index.html' to 123.000.212.100 using the HTTP protocol'. The numeric IP address might be a permanent, or a dynamic address assigned to you for your current session. The requests are put into a queue, and the server handles them in turn. The request contains all the information needed to ensure that the page is sent to the requestor. There is no acknowledgement sent for each request -- the protocol is 'connectionless'. If you get the page, that is your acknowledgement, if you don't get it in a reasonable time, a browser might ask again, or just tell you about it. |
