Has anyone used one of these, or similar, to upgrade their cpu, rather than buying a new motherboard? Did it work? Was it an easy process? Are they available in NZ? |

I would also be assuming that you currently have a 'slot 1' motherboard that you wish to use a newer celeron processor in...... The slockets are available in NZ...Paradigm Peripherals have them for around $36 + the price of a CPU http://www.pp.co.nz be warned though you not all slockets are compatible with all motherboards.....and you may be limited by the multiplier and FSB of your board...... It can be a gamble so you really need to provide some more info on your current set-up..... |

Save up a few more dollars and get a Duron (if you want a 'budget' CPU) with a DDR mobo - will absolutely blow away a celeron. See www.tomshardware.com for the truth about the newer celerons. | Guest (0) | ||

A major plus is that it would be a very upgradeable system, being able to go from a Duron 700 or so through to an Athlon XP 2000+. Will cost slightly more than the slocket idea, but it will be a lot better valure for money. JM |
