| 41216 | 2002-04-01 03:04:00 | My pc has taken to loading a dos? programme called wininit.exe at startup. It is easily disposed of but what is wininit and why has it mysteriously appeared? Can I stop it from loading? | Guest (0) | ||

See if that helps, otherwise go to www.google.com and do a search for wininit.exe to bring up additional results. If memory serves me right though, windows also uses a wininit file which comes in both ini and exe extensions. |

| 41220 | 2002-04-01 06:53:00 | Its part of a virus/trojan. Go to one of the antivirus sites like symantec and do a search to find info on it. Its one of those that requires registry editing to fix and there will be 2-5 other files to get rid of depending on the variant of virus/trojan it is. You may have to delete a file or two in pure DOS as well - again depending on the variant of virus/trojan. |
